Probe launched into missing pages of Easter Sunday bomb attacks report

Colombo, October 8 (Daily Mirror) - The government has launched an investigation into the alleged incident of pages missing from the Special Presidential Commission into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, Minister Vijitha Herath said today.

He told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that the findings of the investigations will be revealed soon.

He said the investigations will find out how the pages went missing and whether the report that was submitted to the President had all its pages intact.

Minister Vijitha Herath needs to review the appointment of the Additional Secretary for Ports and Shipping, which was given to the former Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), who has been implicated in several illegal activities during the tenure of the previous minister. If he remains in the ministry, there is a risk that crucial evidence related to SLPA may soon disappear.

This situation is unacceptable. These untoward incidents happen only in SL. Custodian of the report should have the simple courtesy to ensure the safety of this important document and prevent it going to wrong hands. Person responsible for safe custody of this important report should be taken to task and as a deterrent measure, he should be dealt with severely according to law of the land.

During Rajapakse period, every sector from Armed Forces to Grama Sevakas were corrupt and mainly most of them were Sinhalese. Now with NPP in power, the new slogan and game is to eradicate this menace. However with such a huge population who had been corrupt at all levels encouraged by Leaders so that these Leaders also can rob, it needs to be seen whether this is going to be successful.
