Probe launched on hacking of websites; Govt. to take steps on data protection: Minister



Colombo, December 31 (Daily Mirror) - In the wake of several state institutions' websites being hacked during the last few days, the government has launched investigations into these matters, Cabinet spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said today. 

He added that the government will also take necessary steps on data protection.

The Minister said the government had received some information regarding the hacking incidents and that special attention has been paid to the matter.

While responding to a question on the threat to national security due to hacking of websites of state institutions, he said that similar incidents had been reported in the past as well where the data system of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) was completely destroyed.

The Minister said the government will pay special attention to the matter and all relevant institutions will be tasked regarding this.

The official website of the Government Printing Department and the official YouTube channel of the Sri Lanka Police were hacked
