Public trust in political authority, public service crucial for country’s development: PM

Colombo, September 25 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the government never considers public service as insignificant, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said today that public trust in political authority and publc service is crucial for the nation-building.

Addressing the staff of the Prime Minister's office, she said the country cannot be developed without public trust on public services, state mechanisms and political authority.

"Public trust in the political authority and public services is crucial for the nation-building, which is lacking in our country. People have negative attitudes towards politicians and the public services. A public notion has been created that political authority and public services are useless. We never think public service is insignificant," she said.

The Prime Minister said the government's aim is to create a strong, efficient and people-focused public service.

Start Downsizing And Selling off Excess Assets and Vehicles Wednesday, 25 September 2024 09:33 PM

Absolutely spot on! In order to speed up public trust, start downsizing the administration and show the citizens only limited vehicles and housing is given to deserving officials. Sell off the remaining assets to the local public at a nominal profit. The proceeds from these sales can be spent on the depleted medical and transportation facilities benefiting millions of daily uses especially in Outstation areas. Once the citizens sees the politician at all levels trying to be thrifty, they definitely and willingly support drastic decisions which will benefit the masses eventually. So long 8 out of 10 people agree with the your decisions, you are doing the correct thing. There will always be around 1 or 2 not agreeing as they are brought up differently!

I have always been a proud Sri Lankan. But today, that pride overwhelms me. To see my fellow Sri Lankans walmly embrace their President; without pretence and only expectation brought tears to my eyes. There were no agendas. Only unwavering belief that promises will be delivered and a brighter future will eventuate for everyone. I see on the faces, years of hardship chiselled into their features, and yet people who would never compromise their morals, ethics or principals. I see a solid base to build the pillars of our new society. The thieves of old knocked us down, but they couldn't knock us out. One flag, one nation, one people ! WE DARE TO DREAM !!!

When no confidence motion was brought against the former Health Minister, It was defeated. The supreme court found him guilty. How can we have faith in political authority.
