RW can successfully implement reforms though own mandate: Prelate
Colombo, April 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Chief Prelate (Mahanayake) of the Kotte Sri Kalayani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha of the Siyam Maha Nikaya, Ven. Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Anu Nayake Maha Thera said incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe can implement reforms successfully if he receives a mandate of his own at a future presidential election.
Thera made this remark when UNP Deputy Leader and Presidential Advisor Ruwan Wijewardene met him today.
"One cannot bring about reforms through votes received by others," he said.
"Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the most politically mature candidate in the next Presidential election," Thera added.
"There will be other candidates, such as Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the next Presidential election. There is nothing wrong in them contesting the presidential election, but the incumbent president will be the most mature candidate at the next presidential poll," he added.
Wijewardene said Sri Lanka's economy is becoming better and better.
"The economy would be much better by the time we face the next election," he said.

This doctor in orange definitely didn't do his doctorate in economics. It is true that Ranil is the most mature candidate, but only in age and not in economic knowledge. So far he has had no economic success, just deception and window dressing. Any other candidate cannot do worse than Ranil.

If IMF and other creditors didn’t approve new loans and previous loans to be on hold, nothing much could have been achieved. Now having some extra funds due to non payment of loans in the reserves, this government is painting a false picture about the economic situation. Government expenses are still very high with an over blown public service and Tri Forces.

Does this Dr Ittapana not remember how sincerely the late respected Maduluwawe Sobitha Mahathera wished to see ‘Yahapalanaya’ or ‘good governance’ ensconced in Lanka, and what this mature politician did with that vision? As much as Mr Alahapperuma has called on former presidents to please stay away from active politics, may the people urge the clergy to please stay away from politics. Recall how during the 2022 aragalaya people asked that vociferous politicking monk to kindly stay away from the public! They have done enough damage together with unprincipled opportunist politicians from the 1950s! The media will hopefully not entertain their myopic puerile political statements. The people will decide based on their experience and knowledge, and they will decide well, this time! The error of 6.9 m votes miscast is fresh in their minds!
