Railway strike continues amidst government warning



Colombo, July 11 (Daily Mirror) -  The Railway Station Masters’ Union has announced its decision to prolong the ongoing strike initiated on Wednesday (10), asserting that the action will persist despite government warnings.

Sumedha Somaratne, President of the union, confirmed the extension of the strike during a press briefing following the executive council meeting held on Thursday evening (11).

Addressing reporters, Somaratne emphasized the union's resolve, stating that the decision was unanimous among members present at the meeting. 

He also warned against government attempts to suppress trade unions, declaring solidarity among railway workers in the face of perceived oppression.

In response to the strike, Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardene disclosed that letters have been dispatched to all railway employees involved in the industrial action, notifying them of their positions being considered vacated.
