Rain expected today in most districts



Colombo, June 6 (Daily Mirror) - Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today, the forecasting division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

They said a few showers will occur in the Northern and North-Central Provinces.

Thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva Provinces in the evening or night.

While issuing the weather forecast for sea areas around the island for the next 24 hours, the Meteorology Department today requested the naval and fishing communities to be attentive to the weather alerts.

Accordingly, strong winds of up to 50 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces and in the  Hambantota district.
Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast, extending from Kankesanthurai to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle. 

Wind speed may increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaitivu to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai, Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaitivu to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai, Mannar, and Hambantota to Pottuvil can be rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
