Rajapaksas & friends thought they owned this country - CBK slams
Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga today slammed the Rajapaksas saying that the actions taken by the Rajapaksa regimes had led to the serious crisis situation in the country.
"Not only the Rajapaksas, but the government representatives around them, their friends, and associates are also to be blamed for the prevailing crisis," she said during the opening of the new office of the ‘Nawa Lanka Freedom Party’ in Battaramulla.
The party is led by former minister and Kalutara District parliamentarian Kumara Welgama.
Speaking during the opening, te former president said that the Rajapaksa regimes and those who ruled the country after 2005 had thought they owned this country and its assets. " They thought they can act in any manner they want and that they can get away with anything, every the dirty work they do," she said.
She said if anyone raised objections against the regimes action, they were killed.

China thinks it owns us and we are a vassal state - they have successfully demonstrated this on the spy ship visit issue by dictating to us their wishes

Same thing your family, from your father, to your mother to yourself thought to. Since your mother contested after your father's tragic death, then you contested after your own husband's terrible assassination too, you have been riding on husband's popularity. Nothing about individual merit. No different to what the Rajapaksa's did and want to continue to do. Even Gota got elected because of the wrong reasons, with the public for generations being incapable to make good voting decisions for the country. The current generation of youth are more astute, which is why they protest and the older generation is thoroughly busy trying to smother out the the new light.

She also should take the blame for her initial blunder of appointing MR as PM, an office he was ill suited for, but he made it his watershed moment to plunder, wreck and ruin the country in all its forms bringing it down to its knees.

Yes and the great friend of the rajapaksas , the totally unelected Lord Naseby is still ranting on from time to time saying how wonderful they are. I might add that almost no one in the UK has ever heard of him although he is often quoted in Sri Lankan articles. In times past of course he and i suspect other family members were wined and dined at Sri Lankan taxpayers expense courtesy of the Rajapaksa corrupt regime.

There are so many parties and fractions splitted from them are there in Srilanka right now. What we need at this crucial period is pragmatic visionary leadership to put the country back on the right track. It is a pity that at least a clue of such person is not there yet.

That assertion of 1st negative GDP growth is correct. No disputes!! However the basic, foremost difference, CBK and MR government was, CBK infrastructure projects didn't borrow, without limitation. Importantly, repayment capacity and Return on Investment (RoI)?! EIA to ensure environmentally friendly!!?? The original E01 initiated CBK time ADB funding was modest (as per consultancy and feasibility report commissioned by CBK)??!! Significantly, less than ½ the later E01 cost, as MR modified in 2006?? Difference initial single lane, 2-way Expressway with specific provision Drainage and reserve/emergency lane provision incorporated for FUTURE E01 self-funded dual carriage way by 2016 instead 2006??!!

MR wanted instead and insisted on dual carriage way from inception and no alternative way to Medamulana, Weeraketiya and beyond??!! Nothing could convince the new HoS otherwise?? When ADB said it would not enhance the funding, egoistic MR decided local financing, with Chinese Bank commercial loans!! So Sri Lanka and Lankans arrived at this important juncture in our lives, of starvation, shortages etc. to commemorate the good and bad of such impulsive actions of the HoS, a product of the much maligned and despised by SLFP/PA during 1995 general election – JRJ “Bahubootha Viyawasththawa” – unilateral decision??!! POLITRICS ON THE RUN??!!

We are in a country where temples are used to greet and bless crooks - sad but absolutely true. If not for SWRD and JRJ, with their racist failed policies, Sri Lanka would have been a developed country and all Rajapashas would be in the film industry acting as comedians. Please remember whenever you want to blame the Rajapashas , blame your father first and then yourself for giving him the nomination in 2004.

In contrast to Ranil at that time, she mainly made good politics in difficult times and paid a high personal price for it through the terror of the LTTE ! She loves her country, is smart and has a charismatic personality ! Which of the politicians has charisma!

Your father, your mom and you together should be made responsible for today’s pathetic and beggar-like situation in SL. All of you had a very short vision for our mother Lanka. Your husband, Mr. Vijaya Kumaranatunga had a great vision for the country. But he was eliminated by Premadasa in a very very cowardly way. Please note, the country was on a slippery path the day SL then Ceylon decided to make Sinhala as the official language and Buddhism as the state religion. Two languages one country, one language two countries. This was first brought about by SWRD (her father) and the mother was no different. Of course Rajapakse's took it to another level- all in the name of capturing power. Look where the country has progressed to?

Daring youth. A lot of what you have said may be true but the difference is that the Bandaranayakes were not corrupt. I'm definitely not a fan but it is a fact. My family was ejected from the country by Mrs SB because of her vengefulness. The rajakakshas on the other hand, are the most corrupt politicians this country has ever had the misfortune to elect into office together with their cronies. The support they are still able to muster is a black mark on the intelligence of Sinhala society after all the destruction SLPP has caused to our economy. Wake up moda Sinhalayas. If pohottuwa is allowed to carry on in politics, they will wipe us off the face of the earth. As for the daring youth, hats off for your efforts but you never had leadership and we are back to square one or worse. Aragalaya will never be allowed to happen again with armed forces protecting crooks and not the people or country. They have proved that they are controlled by the rajapakshas.

How come the resigned prez is given all facilities where as the previous presidents are not given the same. Even the resigned PM has no right to be given such lodging, security etc. He too should pack his bag and go.
