Rajarata Rajina and Sagarika collide in Beliatta



Colombo, December 15 (Daily Mirror) - The engines of the Sagarika express train and the Rajarata Rajina express train collided at the Beliatta Railway Station this morning, the Railways Department reported.

Deputy General Manager of Railways (Transportation) M.J. Indipolage told the Daily Mirror that the accident occurred when the Rajarata Rajina train, travelling from Beliatta to Anuradhapura, collided with the Sagarika train, which was parked on the wrong track during an engine change.

The Railways Department confirmed that an investigation into the incident has already been initiated.

The Sagarika train sustained severe damages in the collision, making it impossible for the train to operate tomorrow morning (16).

Additionally, the Rajarata Rajina train, which was scheduled to depart from Beliatta to Anuradhapura at 8:45 a.m. today, experienced delays due to the accident.
