Ramadan fasting month begins tomorrow

Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - The month of Ramadan fasting begins for the Muslim community in Sri Lanka from tomorrow (12) as the new crescent moon has been sighted, the Colombo Grand Mosque said.

Muslims worldwide will observe a month of fasting and prayers during Ramadan, commemorating the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Mohammed on the night of 'Laylat Al Qadr'.

Fasting during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

While Muslims commence their holy season of Ramadan, it would also be nice if you could mention the holy season of Lent for the Christians that actually commenced on the 14th of February and that will end on March 30th. I have the greatest respect for both denominations for their ability to create space for spiritual reflection, growth, and connection with their God.
