Ranil and Sajith should unite: Rajitha
Colombo, August 27 (Daily Mirror) - While stating that former MP Thalatha Athukorala was correct in calling for unity between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa, MP Rajitha Senaratne said today that this is the best course of action for the country.
"I also tried to convince Premadasa to cooperate with Wickremesinghe and the UNP, but he was against the move. I must say Thalatha came up with the best idea," MP Senaratne told a media briefing.
The MP also revealed that there are SJB members who are frustrated with the developments in the party but are reluctant to cross over, as they still believe that Premadasa could win.
"However, there are some SJB members who are waiting to cross over. They will do so as the Presidential election campaign progresses," he said.

The only people Ranil hand picked (via National List) are people like Dr Harsha. The so called rogues in Parliament were democratically voted by one set of voters and we as another set of voters are blaming Ranil for having them in parliament. Sarath Fonseka is the only candidate who correctly blamed us voters for the mess we are in. Everyone else is keeping the voters in their good books.

You forgot the ground situation when Ranil kept away from contesting. It was political contest, so he brought in IO Sira. But 2 years ago the situation was different. There were no takers for the post. Everybody hid behind whatever they had, because the country was in dire strait. NO MONEY even to pay electricity bills. NO MONEY to buy fuel, gas and other utilities for the ordinary citizen. That was the time where everyone should shoulder the burden.

If any SJB MP thinks Premadasa can win they are seriously delusional. This fight is between AKD and RW. One has the proven track record and experience the other a following with a hatred of the establishment hell bent on blindly overthrowing it regardless of the consequences. Where does Sajith fit into this picture he has no experience, he ran away not once but twice. Maybe his father's name and printing press will fool the gullible that is all and that is nowhere enough to win rigged opinion polls not withstanding. Rajitha is right and so is Mrs Athukorala.

But you forget Ranil ran away thrice. As head of the UNP he first backed Sarath F in 2010 then IO Sira in 2015 and put Sajith forward in 2020. Till he got a chance without contesting thanks to looters who were protected by him.

Ranil is extremely unpopular among general public. If he really wants to win, he should pledge support to Sajith instead of trying to take members from every party. Also look at the members who support RW, majority of them are corrupt and frogs. Rohitha, Lanza, Ravi, Daya, Manusha, Harin, Rajitha, Fawzie, Aluthgamage, Prasanna R, Bandula are extremely unpopular politicians.
