Ranil could make a comeback: Rajitha

Colombo, November 1 (Daily Mirror)- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe could make a comeback as people may start looking up to him in the event of another economic crisis which looks to be a possibility, former MP and New Democratic Front (NDF) Kalutara District candidate Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.

“Wickremeisnghe could come back through Parliament to play a key role in restoring the nation in an eventual economic crisis, if he wants that way or he could play the role of an advisor if he does not want to come through the national list,” Dr. Senaratne told a media briefing.

“The world has lately learnt that Wickremeisinghe is a capable person though he is criticised here in Sri Lanka. The IMF has advised Ethiopia, which has suffered economic turmoil, to follow Sri Lanka. In addition, US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu referred to Sri Lanka’s economic resurgence as a great comeback story. This means that the World is aware of Wickremeinghe’s ability. Therefore, he should be brought back to active politics even by amending the existing laws,” he added.
