Ranil making impractical promises: AKD

Colombo, September 3 (Daily Mirror)- President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who senses his defeat, has started to give impractical pledges like increasing salaries of government servants and writing off crop loans, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

Speaking at a rally in Elpitiya, he said if he had genuine concern for the country and its people, he could have fulfilled most of the pledges he gives now.

Dissanayake said after realizing that he is going to lose power, he has started to give election promises (Gundu).

"When government employees demanded a pay hike a few months ago, he refused to do so citing shortage of funds. How can he increase salaries now. He also said that he will write off all crop loans. It is a lie. It is possible. But, a proper analysis must be done first. He is now giving impractical and confusing promises due to fear of losing," he said.

He said people could not be deceived by such false promises as they had been hearing such promises at every election.

So far the NPP has not indicated their top leadership team and their 25 Ministers. With AKD Handunnetti Tilwin Lalkantha all being professional politicos from day one, and having no idea of corporate governance, they have not run a business or engaged in any agricultural pursuit. May be some academics without professional experience will join them. So it would indeed be a chancy experiment in system change.

As mentioned, he will downsize every bit of government sector including the security forces. Also shelve all unnecessary government projects similarly undertaken by the new Labour Party in England. AKD will definitely seek advice from his pool of local and overseas advisors on ensuring progress for the country and its people and claiming back the money corruptly taken over in the past. It won’t be smooth sailing for everyone but “need to bite the bullet for now”. He won’t be stupid to do under table deals as he’s still young and had a long way ahead to run the country.

True. It is impractical for you and your comrades. You are trying to fool the people mixing with the situation prevailed in the country suffering on economic sludge. During that time it's you and your comrads who are working in offices were protesting against the government demanding to pay hike with the intention of creating disharmony and cripple the government. You did not like the economy was recovering. It is President Ranil Wickramasinghe who initiated debt restructuring programs and brought the economy that was believed never be recovered, to the stable condition as of now,. Then how could you say as salary increase is impractical for the president if he could take up the challenges and take the country that was declared as bankruptcy, from the economic sludge that created many hardships to the people living in Sri Lanka.

Rani Wickramasinghe took up the challenges as a single lion that woul face face risk on it's path. Your party did not welcome peaceful situation prevailed in the country because you believe that only disharmony situation will helpful for getting vote. Ranil Wickramasinghe doesn't play party politics. He respect talented people and believe working as a team to rebuild the country that declared as bankruptcy two years ago. The private sector will lead the growth of the economy. No new appointments to the government sector, except for health and education sector specialists.
