Ranil must apologise to northern people for inciting racism: AKD responds to Ranil

Colombo, September 8 (Daily Mirror)- President Ranil Wickremesinghe must apologise to the northern people for inciting racism during a rally in Jaffna, instead of challenging him to apologise to the northern people, NPP Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

Speaking at the 25th convention of the Inter Company Employees' Union (ICEU), Dissanayake said President Wickremesinghe had challenged him to apologise to the northern people claiming that he had inflicted undue influence on the northern people.

"Ranil is attempting to incite racism in this election. I must be thankful to TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran. He has given the correct answer to Ranil. Ranil, you must apologise now,” he said.

Dissanayake said politics of inciting racism in the country is gone now.

"Politics of inciting racism in the country is not valid and successful now," he added.

So Ranil is corrupt? Since he has been in politics for a very long time than he must be very rich. So where are his riches. He was at the bottom of the wealthy list. You man AKD is actually better off with more wealth. Another thing when people swindle money from the state and deposit it in safe heavens like Appachchi that money cannot be recovered. That is why they are called safe heavens. Years of litigation and a boat load of money spent maybe you will get something back but that amount will be offset by the money spent to recover it.

Absolutely correct. What a responsibility on AKD’s shoulders from 21st. The people need to rally behind him to transform SL, looking to the future. No point squabbling about the past, we have a country with tremendous potential in location, Climate, people. The rebuilding task is a huge challenge but with an honest, capable, dedicated and intelligent leader, with an absolutely committed team, all looks positive now.

AKD is turning out to be a clown. I listened to the video clips of both and think RW is correct. AKD's comment was the first time in this election that the race card was used in such a manner to woo voters. MAS has taken an anti RW position rather tham a balanced view in this instance since his base within the ITAK is eroding badly and perhaps sees RW as a contributor towards it.

MP Sumanthiran is a lawyer and what his judgement in this case not importance as he has represented AKD and JVP in certain court cases. AKD is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It’s a consoling statement from a visionary leader. Anyone who has followed AKD for the past year would have learnt that this is a man who always talks sense, topics of relevance, inclusivity, place of religion in the government, economy, history, name any topic and he would give the perfect reply. He will provide the leadership to ensure that all people in SL are treated as one and the same, wrt law and order, land rights, language etc etc. We should be happy that he is contesting the election.
