President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s exit from office will be more fearsome than former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s, former MP and Samagi Wanitha Balawegaya Head Hirunika Premachnadra said today.
“Ranil's exit will happen soon and it will be more fearsome than that of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He will be removed instantly and may end up in prison,” Ms. Premachandra told a press conference.
“Another aragalaya is on the way as people will begin rising again. Houses of main businessmen will be burnt by the helpless people and all the wealth owned by the rich will grabbed by the poor who are becoming helpless,” she added.
“Grabbing of assets owned by the rich has already begun as with some items from a rich household in Battaramulla a few days ago,” she said.
Ms. Premachandra came out hard against the decision to appoint Premalal Jaysekara as a State Minister and questioned as to how the UNPers welcome this move. “ It was Mr. Jayasekera who was convicted for killing a UNP supporter named Dodangoda at a rally on January 4, 2022 and one wonders as how the UNPers tolerate this move,” she said.
Also she said participation of Mr. Wickremesinghe in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth will not give any benefits to Sri Lanka. (Yohan Perera)

Ranil R Tuesday, 13 September 2022 11:32 PM
Ranil is foxy and he is cunning enough how to get away from all troubles and he has indeed faced a lot defeats and failures so we shouldn't underestimate him and his political manipulation.. He is 200times clever than Rajapaksa and he is many time more educated than Rajapaksa . Unlike Rajapaksa he has mastered politics and law . So he do what needs to do when he feel it is appropriate

RW is a very cunning fox, and he has now tasted power that has eluded him for decades. This is what he has been dreaming all his life but got there under strange circumstances, thanks to the Aragalaya. That is a fact and if the Aragalaya is unlawful, so is his Presidency. People are not deaf and blind anymore and hopefully all these corrupt politicians and businessmen will end up behand bars.

Hirunika is correct. RW and his boys have no idea about what's headed their way. They have ruined the country and made sure that the economy will never be revived. Please don't beg for mercy when it happens.

I fully agree with you, Hirunika. But, please don't risk your life. Stupid Sri Lankans don't deserve better life. They are born as slaves, live as slaves and want to die as slaves. Please look at the comments made in this column. They are slaves of Rajapaksas.

Appointing convicted persons to positions of parliamentary office and public service is not new for this dispensation. Recall how a rare, decent and honourable member like the late Rohan Abeygunasekera was sidelined from the Hanguranketa Seaton 2001 to accommodate another low specimen of parliamentarian we have seen! So, lessons from the recent brave expressions of the youth, personified and represented by people like Ms Premachandra, are yet to be learned!

When the country is in dire situation where common man can only dream of his next meal, what urgency has the President to attend the funeral of the Queen at such expense at the poor nations coffers? Not withstanding this, SL threw away the Queen as the head of the state way back in 1972 and became a republic. This trip to UK is all a thamashaa for the benefit of the political crook.

The frustration, resentment and misery of the people are broiling over and increasing rapidly without any end in sight; partly because of the downright stupid actions of this regime and the horrendous suppression of the fundamental rights of the people. Undoubtedly the second aragalaya is close at hand and it will be far more powerful than the first. The biggest mistake was that appointment of a stupid and corrupted guy who had failed five times as the prime minister as president.

What justice will the president offer to the families of the victim who was shot and killed in public view. The victim was working for the party of the present president. The incumbent president has created history unprecedented in world politics by snatching victory from the claws of defeat in elections but being able to snatch power thro the votes of majority of M.P.s who have to cling on to him desperately to revive their party hoping to come back to power clobbing together a coalition wih the elephant party. This is total hypocrasy aa democracy and rule-of -law are in the dustbins.

Let Ranil govern and get us out of this financial predicament. He has done some questionable things, which we do not accept. But we do not know under what circumstances he was compelled to do so. Right now, people should keep calm until the IMF agreement is signed. It is sheer stupidity to pick holes in governance now without concentrating in getting through the financial crisis. Hirunika is like any other politician trying to latch on to a debatable issue and make some noise hoping to gain votes at the next election.

A lot of the previous dissent against the lack of freedom of expression during Gota's time is not muffled through the PTA action against aragalaya youth. Hirunika speaking up is at least a start for moving away from the continued SLPP domination of our society. If an election were to be held today, it likely SLPP (or even UNP) would probably only get a few seats, and might be pushed into the side lines like the SLFP even. Our give year term for parliament is far too long. US House of Congress only two years. Australia and New Zealand lower houses where their Prime Ministers are from, maximum only 3.5 years. Most times terms last only 2.5 to 3 years. We need a complete change of how government terms even happen here for improvements to keep happening.
