Ranjan leaves prison

Former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, who was serving a four-year sentence on charges of contempt of court, left the prison a short while ago after being granted presidential pardon.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Minister Manusha Nanayakkara and several other SJB MPs had gathered outside the Welikada prison to welcome him.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe signed the document granting conditional presidential pardon to former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake this morning.

This must be clear political manipulation and twist ....The former president revenged him and now this president released him what a joke ...This man was in a wrong place in a wrong time...our judiciary and courts have become a play ground for our politics and our political leaders have destroyed our judiciary and our legal system has become a wonder of Asia

Hope he can contest as MP again. He will surely come into parliament again. The conviction that was made against him was utterly unfair, and no other country which is democratic would in the least have laws about having Judiciary like gods. Too many times they let murder go, if they are big political party men.

Very big thank for Ranil. This is one, which most of the people wanted. He is the only politician who is straight forward , had courage to speak against corruption. After all he is one of few corruption free politician. But it would be better for the President to revisit the conditions and make it reasonable.
