Ranjan to be released during the weekend

Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake is expected to be released from prison during the weekend, Minister Harin Fernando said today.

This is expected as Mr. Ramanayake had submitted an aplogy to the Judiciary in the form of an affidavit.

He had apparently tendered an aplogy for committing contempt of court twice.

He had accordingly stated that he wishes to tender an aplogy and that he withdraws all statements which he had made refering to the courts.

Also he had said he will not make such offences now or in the future.

Informed sources said he will be released during the weekend.

Earlier on Wednesday Minister Harin Fernando said President Ranil Wickremesinghe had informed that he would sign documents grant an amnesty to the film artiste-turned politician Ranjan Ramanayake shortly. (Yohan Perera)

Every word what Ranjan said was true but now he is being forced to withdraw all his allegations in order to get freedom from prison. It is a historical fact that patently dishonest and unfair official processes accumulating over years or even decades that forms the basis for future revolutions.
