Rashid Khan reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

(ICC) - Rashid Khan has been officially sanctioned by the ICC for a show of dissent towards a teammate during Afghanistan’s nerve-wracking win over Bangladesh at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Afghanistan beat Bangladesh to seal a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in their history. But the game wasn’t short on drama, with weather delays and batting collapses ensuring there were nerves right to the end of the contest.

And all-rounder Rashid Khan showed his frustration during the final over of the first innings with an outburst that has earned him a sanction.

Having skewed a trademark snake shot into the off side, Rashid looked to tear back for a second thanks to a fumble in the ring, only to be sent back by his partner.

Rashid was already halfway down and had time to stop, hurl his bat in frustration to the floor, and then turn to make his ground comfortably, suggesting there was indeed plenty of time for a second run.

A subdued Karim Janat retrieved the bat and returned it to his still-fuming teammate, before knocking a single to give Rashid the strike for the final two balls of the over, the last of which he smoked for six to finish on 19*(10).

Rashid Khan went on to take 4/23 in the second innings as Afghanistan progressed to the semi-finals, where they will take on South Africa in Trinidad.

This is a dedicated cricketer playing with genuine intent and emotion unlike our present bunch who are more focused on how much they earn, or how they look in social media rather than actually perform.

Afgan players need to learn non-cricket manners in addition to playing cricket. Faking injuries, shouting at team mates, showing aggression and showing highly emotional displays are all to see. May be they have not been taught these coming from a war-torn country. They don't even talk about their girls not being able to play sports and getting an education. They should advocate those as South Africa's apartheid era had a great impact coming from sports. These Afgan players seem to be very silent on those issues. Kudos to Australia for refusing to play them in bilateral series. Other cricket boards should follow that lead and put pressure on Afgan board. It is the only ICC member which does not have a women team. Isn't that political interference? ICC has double standards..

This World T20 is the worst organised tournament in the history of T20. This proves how good the ICC is. Knowing the weather in the US , never used new wickets and traveling for over 8 hours right into the ground to play a match. What type of donkeys are ruling the ICC these days. They are only ruining the game of cricket for the sake of money.

when you play for your country, you should have this kind of hunger to win attitude, yes its somewhat unsportsmanly in some ways. We are talking about a war torn country ( thanks to the west world) who are rising above the ashes to bring some glory to their country. Talking about what the country doesn't allow or doesn't do is utter crap. Sri lanka should learn from them the die hard attitude which SL has lost unfortunately. It may also be that the sri lankans do not have to win as their pay cheques are secured. So they have no concern to play for country and pride.. just show up, put up an ordinary show and get the bucks from the board back home. It's pathetic and appalling and disgraceful to witness a once great team has now become next to nothing....
