Refrain from using investor names in campaigns: Namal urges candidates

Colombo, September 16 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Namala Rajapaksa requested other candidates to refrain from using the names and details of investors as part of their election campaign slogans.

Addressing at a rally in Minuwangoda today, he urged politicians to continue their campaigns by exchanging ideas and ideologies, but to do so without mentioning the names of investors.

"It is important for us to prioritize supporters not focused on names or individuals, but those who can create jobs for the people, bring in the necessary dollars, develop the country and attract the right investors to drive progress," he said.

It is not important whether the investors are from China, India, the USA, Russia, Europe or Middle Eastern countries, but rather how influential they are within the global economy, he said.

"Today, our political landscape is shrinking into a narrow focus. In the past, our foreign policies have been based on fostering friendly relations. Moving forward, we will take decisive action to attract the world’s most powerful investors to the country, ensuring that these investments are made without any political interference," Namal Rajapaksa said.
