Remanded Onco Surgeon at Karapitiya requests for early retirement

Galle, Jan. 20 (Daily Mirror)- Krishantha Perera, the Onco Surgeon at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, who was remaded over the alleged assault on a female hospital staffer, has requested to obtain leave preparatory to retirement, Hospital Director S.D.M. Ranga confirmed.

It is reported that the surgeon could serve until the age of 63 according to the new circualr and that he had requested for retirement two years prior to his retirement age.

He was remanded till 22 January by the Galle Magistrate’s Court over the assault.

For his poor conduct when he must be in remand he is in the luxury of a Hospital. This is a privilege available to the rich and the Justice Minister must do something about this.

Very pathetic the Surgeon has requested for prior retirement mainly because of his professional carreer been at stake and by this it is the general public who cannot afford oncology treatment will have to face the consequences. At most of the private reputed hospitals oncology treatment is fetching a price more than Rs. 1 mn depending on the category stage of the cancer. Isn't there any Union or authority who could bring about a settlement since this is a precursor for all other Surgeons to seek greener pastures.?This is a very sensitive issue because this matter should have been addressed by the top Health Officials. Finally let me add the nurses behaviour is because when the Doctors were given the Disturbance Allowance of Rs. 35000/- these ancillary categories did not get which they did not deserve. Let there be fair judgement taking into consideration the derilection of duty by staff of the Union and mob getting involved in this matter on behalf of this staff member!!!!!

This hospital Director is bringing in the “retirement” into this saga as a diversionary tactics to soften the action of this “thuggish” surgeon. He has to face the charges in the court and accept the consequences. If this has happened in Canada, he would be facing a two year custodial sentence.

It seems timely medical attention is not Important for these patients - the reason so many taking up cudgels with the specialist for reprimanding the Nursing staff participating in strike - STOP WORK - AND HOPEFULLY THE PATIENTS WOULD SURVIVE!! If the Patients die, blame the Nursing staff and other aides for STRIKE action, resulting DEATH!!!

We pity the comments made on this page like the saying Bombay looking Calcutta going. For the sake of commenting we see comments without knowing a head or tail of this incident and some casting aspersions about this Surgeon even labelling him under the category of "Psycho"and also giving him a sentence in Prison. So for all these idiots the only thing is to 'HOLD ONE'S HORSES' until 21st January. because a thorough investigation is in the process and learned Judges will adjudicate this matter and an impartial outcome could be expected since we see comments of self proclaimed Judges and Psychiatrists!!!!!!!!
