Replacements for Harin and Manusha only after Presidential election

Colombo, August 10 (Daily Mirror) - Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has decided not to appoint new MPs for the moment in place of Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara who lost their seats following their expulsion from the SJB which was upheld by the Supreme Court yesterday.

The party hierarchy which met yesterday has decided to fill the vacancies of the two MPs after the September 21 Presidential election, party sources said.

Meanwhile, it was also reported that MP Imthiaz Bakeer Markar will be appointed as new Chairman of the party.

It clearly shows they don’t bother about the citizens in their area which elected them into parliament. They just want to enjoy the privileges of being in government. In most other countries, if an MP is removed or resigns, a by election is arranged. If not, the people are without an MP to represent them in parliament. Hope all voters can see this and vote wisely in the coming elections.

Ha Ha. MPs do not represent the voters in parliament, they represent only themselves for private gain. So a few weeks makes no difference. Even a bye election will take six to eight weeks. So who then represents the people during that time.

A dump comment. Agree with Onlooker. MPs do not represent anyone, they only represent themselves. SL people do not know who their MP is. First we need to change that. Secondly, reduce 225 to at least 100. Way too many dump MPs. Not replacing them won't make an iota of a difference.

@Lional - refrain from name calling please. Be professional like “ Onlooker” comments. Everyone is allowed to make objective comments on this platform. Yes, your point of reduction in MPs and how they serve their constituents must be addressed once a new President takes over. Current MPs are more interested of themselves and not the people. Just take a look at the facilities and transportation network in their constituency is an example.

Replacement will create dissatisfaction among the people in the constituency represented by Harin and Manusha over Sajith. It will pave the way for going significant vote for Ranil unexpectedly. So Sajith trying to get away from this challenges instead of resolving this issue.
