‘Reveal actions against accidents involving VIP vehicles’

National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection today urged the Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to reveal what actions the government had taken to minimize the road accidents involving vehicles of VIPs and vehicles attached to VIPs’ security divisions.

Issuing a statement, they stated that Minister de Silva is concerned only about the measures taken to prevent accidents involving vehicles of the general public.

The movement condemned the fine structure introduced recently for traffic violators.

I agree, similarly with emission testing ... we all have to do it every year and than a red government passes you on the road and the entire road is covered in smoke ... double standards seems to be the standard in Sri Lanka!

The same rules and fines should apply for VIPs, Government ministers, the vehicles used by their security staff and VIPS. This is how it happens in most other countries. Traffic violations by diplomatic staff are stringently examined in most other countries.One might argue that ministers are travelling for urgent business. So are most of the general public.The only exception should be for ambulance drivers. Even here accidents have to be treated with caution.

It is very obvious that VIPs can get away easily in this country. laws are there only for the ordinary people.
