SAFE Sloth Bear Team visits Sri Lanka

A 14-member team from the Saving Animals from Extinction (SAFE) Sloth Bear Programme of the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums is currently in Sri Lanka.

The programme aims to educate, train and support ongoing sloth bear research and conservation efforts conducted by the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society, as well as assist the Wildlife Conservation Department in providing medical treatment to sloth bears.

The team has also brought valuable medical supplies to support the Department's efforts.

Workshops will be held for the Department’s veterinarians in Giritale and at the Elephant Transit Home (ETH).

This programme underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to protecting its endangered wildlife and highlights the international support the country is receiving for its conservation efforts.
