SJB denies association with petitioner seeking Presidential poll postponement

Colombo, July 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today denied any association with Chamindra Dayan Lenawa, who filed a petition calling for the postponement of the Presidential election by one year.

"Some are trying to associate Lenawa with the SJB. We have nothing to do with him. Those who are trying to link him with us are merely engaged in mudslinging," SJB media spokesman Sujeewa Senasinghe told a media briefing today.

He also said that others claim he is a relative of a senior figure in the National People's Power (NPP).

It was reported earlier that Lenawa was originally a member of the Jathika Sanwardana Permauna, led by Rohan Pallewatte, which was associated with the SJB. It was also reported that he is now a member of the SJB working committee.

Meanwhile, Senasinghe expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will dismiss the petition filed by Lenawa.

"The Supreme Court has previously ruled that former President Sirisena’s term was limited to five years, so there is no possibility of the Court changing this situation," he said.
