SJB’s Chamith Wijesundera criticizes govt.’s slow response over flood disaster

National Organizer of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Youth, Chamith Wijesundera criticized the government’s lack of preparedness and slow response in the wake of Cyclone Fengal, which has caused significant damage across Sri Lanka.

“More action should have been taken as a government when the cyclone warning was issued before landfall,” Wijesundera said in an X post, expressing concern over the delayed relief efforts in flood-affected areas.

Nevertheless, he praised the Sri Lanka Army for their ongoing efforts, stating, “The Army is doing an amazing job.”

However, he noted that relief supplies had yet to reach many affected regions, leaving thousands of families in desperate need of assistance.

As such, Wijesundera urged the government to prioritize financial assistance for victims to aid in their recovery.
