SL Customs makes Rs.1 trillion record revenue achievement in history
Colombo, September 06 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Customs made a recorded revenue achievement of Rs. 1 trillion, making it the highest figure of revenue generated so far in the country’s history, Customs Spokesperson Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda said.
Being one of the three revenue-generating arms of the Ministry of Finance, the Customs had been given a target of achieving Rs. 1.533 trillion during 2024.
“It is a victory to all of us as we have managed to achieve Rs. 1 trillion from the given target within the first eight months of the year, and we believe that we could surpass the next Rs. 533 billion in the remaining four months,” Arukgoda said.
Sri Lanka Customs had been given a revenue target of Rs. 892 billion for 2023 and had managed to surpass it by achieving Rs. 975 billion by December 31st last year.
Arukgoda said the massive revenue was generated without including the traditional duty on motor vehicles, which is about 25% of Customs revenue before vehicle imports were banned in Sri Lanka.
“Petroleum, alcohol and tobacco top the list of 10 leading products on which the duty had been enforced upon,” Arukgoda said.
