SLC President breaks silence on team’s T20 World Cup decisions

Colombo, June 22 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva expressed his disappointment over the decisions made by the Sri Lankan team during the T20 World Cup, following their early exit from the tournament held in the United States.

“Our team didn’t qualify for the Super Eight, but we have provided them with facilities that match those of the best teams in the world,” he said.

Silva at an event in Colombo addressed the severe criticisms directed at the team and the Cricket Board after the team failed to qualify for the Super Eight stage.

The SLC President emphasized that the backlash he has received is as if he himself had participated in the tournament.

“Nobody understood the conditions of the pitches or the fact that some of the best teams were out of competition,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Silva noted that “SLC was not financially strong in the past, but now, thanks to a proper committee and management, we are among the fourth or fifth highest-earning cricketing bodies."
