Colombo, Jan 11(Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) loses Rs. 10 million daily because of fraudulent hold back of ticket revenue by the bus conductors and drivers, Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardene told Parliament today.

“Those who man SLTB buses hold back a portion of funds they collect by issuing tickets without handing over the total amount they collect to SLTB. The SLTB therefore loses Rs. 10 million daily as a result of this issue,” the Minister said.

“We will introduce a prepaid QR card system to overcome this issue,” he added.

Employees in various sectors keenly follow the politicians learning all the tricks to rob. When the money is deposited or handed over the officer must check the ticket books to see if money given is correct. Conductors are expected to add the figures in every page carrying the total to the next page. the ticket books must be kept and randomly checked. My belief is the officers accepting the money are also in the game

Why no punitive action, if inquiry/investigations conducted?? What outcomes has resulted such investigations!!?? There seemed to be more holes in the system than in the proverbial Swiss Cheese. The entire system of the state is corrupted and the administration appears to be ineffective. Minister of Transport is only a big talker and clueless of implementing a robust system to implement a robust fool proof system to minimize waste. It is better to hand over the project to the electronic department of University of Moratuwa, they will do a good job.

I have never been short changed by a SLTB conductor and a ticket was always issued,whereas the private buses never give you a ticket and always give you less change.Do something Minister and walk the talk.

Most of the SLTB bus drivers are bribed by the Private bus operators. They never stop at the Halt or try to take passengers. Most of the busses are with few passengers.
