Salaries, benefits extended to lifetime to dependants of war heroes

Salaries and other entitlements of soldiers who had been killed or disabled on duty would be extended to lifetime of their widows and wives, the President’s Media Division said yesterday.

Currently, salaries and benefits to widows of the deceased or disabled soldiers while on duty are paid only up to the age of 55.

“President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed officials to provide the salaries and benefits for lifetime, to widows of deceased or disabled soldiers while on duty,” the media release said.

It said that measures would be taken within the next two months to provide salaries and benefits for lifetime, to the widows and wives of disabled soldiers.
