We need to define this concept profoundly : what does it mean : is it include all health and safety measures: is it just to clean our environment? Is it to clean our beaches, lakes , rivers , towns , cities, villages and home gardens? Is it to keep our houses, offices and work places clean and tidy: first thing we need to do is to include the subject of health and safety in our school curriculum so that it should be taught to our next generation of children from our primary schools : it does not come over night and it takes time : secondly introduce some strict discipline, rules and guidelines to do this: give bins to local councils people and provide them in each town and cities to throw rubbish : make sure shop keepers, restaurant owners and other industrial waste are thrown away right time and right places : speed up rubbish collection and spend more money cor that : modernise this rubbish collection and disposal system :

Clean Sri Lanka is about cleaning our mindset which has been on a downward spiral over the last several years. We have become a society of helping ourselves and always looking at "what is there for me" concept. If we learn to earn our living honestly, respecting everything and everyone around us, it is a good start. This is our country, both nature and people, and only we can get it out of the present hole we have dug ourselves into. Politicians in the past have used the population as their tools to enrich themselves and if this can be stopped, we are in a better place.

This is a commendable initiative and should be a top priority if we are to position Sri Lanka as a premier tourism destination. We must instill the habit of maintaining cleanliness in our homes and surroundings from an early age. In Japan, children are taught this practice early on, and it reflects in their work culture. Similarly, we need to implement strict penalties for littering, spitting, and defecating in public. Our beaches, rivers, and canals require thorough cleaning, and our waste management system needs to be more effective. Those involved in garbage collection should be equipped with proper tools and safety gear. Ensuring safety is crucial. Additionally, hotels, restaurants, and eateries must elevate their hygiene standards to the next level. Regular inspections by health and food safety teams, coupled with fines for non-compliance, will eventually lead to success. It is essential that this momentum is maintained and not allowed to fade as a short-lived effort.

Clean Sri Lanka has two concepts. One is physically cleaning Sri Lanka removing rubbish dumped here and there. The next is cleaning administration from corruption. Public support is necessary for both

Good initiative. A lot to do. Everyone has their own parr to play. Mindset should be that clean Sri Lanka is my responsibility too. Generally the mentality here is that it is government responsibility but that should change.

Better to start from cleaning the parliament itself by removing the NPP MPs who claim to have qualifications that they have not earned, propounding that deceiving people with lies is a virtue, etc.

This is the first time that a government has demonstrated a vision for the future. “Clean Sri Lanka” program deserves unconditional support. We can make Sri Lanka the cleanest country in Asia. We must have integrity and rejuvenation across all sectors of society. We must fight corruption, end poverty, restore environment justice and create disability-friendly public spaces. - poverty eradication - environmental justice. - disabled-friendly public spaces. - ⁠roads to be safer. - improve air and water quality, and reduce the nation’s carbon footprint. - ⁠1.5 million tonnes of plastic waste per annum to be recycled.

Great, a clean Sri Lanka, start with the basics, public toilets, roads, public spaces, beaches, parks , transport, have signboards in as many places as possible, have a competition to vote for cleanest neighbourhood, town, school, city, use technology, media to promote concept, to be successful has to be sustained, introduce concept in schools, earlier the better, habits form early.

Stop the burning of rubbish. The constant smell of burning plastic and pollution in the air is nauseating. Replace the exhaust belching SLTB buses. And fine everyone dropping rubbish on the streets.

Cleanliness must start from the household and incorporate garbage disposal, sewage treatment and disposal, Land drainage with adequate pipe storm water of underground drains, industrial waste disposal, faulty septic tanks and environmental pollution control. Pumping raw sewage into the sea and rivers is polluting the water for recreation and fish life and detrimental to human health. Spraying mosquito repellants is a waste of money.

What about betal leaves spit, red color found in every bus halt and road sides, which is unhealthy to all roads users, strick measures to all bus drivers and conductors should be matained. A fined should be imposed on these violaters.
