A 16-year-old schoolboy, who was trapped under a mound of earth after an earthslip,  died after being rescued early this morning. 

The victim, identified as D.M. Senara Dilshan, a student in the area and resident of Gallewatta, Watuliyedda in Medamahanuwara, was buried under the debris when the earthslip struck his house around 4:30 am.

The boy was rescued with great difficulty and admitted to the Medamahanuwara Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries after being admitted.

His 14-year-old brother and 61-year-old grandmother, who were also injured in the earthslip, were taken to the hospital for treatment. 

Police said that the family members were asleep when the earth slip occurred.
