Senanayaka Samudraya reaches spill level: Flood warning issued



Ampara, Jan. 10 (Daily Mirror)- The Irrigation Department issued a flood warning for areas downstream of the Gal Oya as the capacity of the Senanayaka Samudraya has reached its peak and there is a high possibility of increasing the spillway discharge starting this evening.

The public and motorists along areas downstream of the Gal Oya are advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by floods.

The Department said those living within the low-lying areas of Polwaththa, Pahalalanda, Irakkamam, Akkaraipattu, Addalachchenai, Alayadiwembu, Sammanthurai, Karaitivu, Ninthavur, Sainthamarudu, Kalmunai and the South Eastern University area at Oluvil should be vigilant.
