Showers enhance from today



Colombo, September 9 (Daily Mirror) - The prevailing showery condition over the south-western parts of the country is expected to enhance to some extent during the next few days from today (9).

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre said today that heavy showers of above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces and in tbe Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. 

Showers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.

Strong winds up to 50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces and in the Hambantota, Moneragala and Trincomalee districts.

Meanwhile, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be rough or very rough at times with very strong gusty winds up to 65 kmph.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 55 kmph.

The naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant when venturing into the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
