Six killed, several injured in Tirupati stampede



Economic Times - As many as six people died and several other were injured in a stampede that occurred at Vishnu Nivasam in Tirupati during the distribution of Vaikunta Dwara Sarva Darshan tokens on Wednesday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu spoke to officials over the phone about the treatment being provided to the injured in the incident. He also ordered higher officials to go to the scene of the incident and take relief measures to ensure that the injured get better treatment, said the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

Naidu further reviewed the situation with DGP, TTD EO, District Collector, and SP.

He said the loss of lives of devotees who came for the darshan is deeply saddening and questioned why they could not make arrangements accordingly when it was known that devotees would come in large numbers. He ordered officials to ensure better treatment for victims to prevent increase in the death toll, the CMO added.

The chief minister will visit Tirupati on Thursday to meet the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the individuals who lost their lives in a tragic stampede that occurred near Vishnu Nivasam in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati.

PM Modi stated that the state government is providing all possible assistance to the victims of the incident.

Husband of a victim told ANI, "While my wife and others were trying to obtain Vaikunta Dwara Darshan tickets, a stampede occurred, resulting in her death. I have informed our relatives and they are on their way."

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi condoled the incident in a post on X
