Sixteen FD accounts of Keheliya’s family members frozen

Colombo, July 04 (Daily Mirror) - On an application made by the Bribery Commission, the Colombo High Court issued an order to freeze 16 fixed deposit accounts and three insurance policies belonging to the family members of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

The value of the frozen fixed deposit accounts and insurance policies has been estimated at Rs. 93.125 million.

Accordingly, 16 fixed deposit accounts and three insurance policies belonging to Keheliya’s spouse, three daughters and son-in-law have been frozen for a period of seven days.

Former Health Minister Rambukwella is currently held in remand custody in connection with the alleged purchase of substandard immunoglobulin injections.

This freezing order was obtained by the Bribery Commission in terms of Section 53(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023, as part of the investigation being conducted under Section 42, where the spouse, family members or any other persons are also subject to scrutiny.

Every trick in the book has been tried to link AKD for holding 8 billion deposits, deposits in Malta, owning houses in Ireland by his enemies but all such efforts failed miserably and such accusations eventually stopped as the enemies realize that they couldn't prove any of them since they are blatant lies. During aragalaya all the rajapaksha clan tried their best to link the devastation was spearheaded by the JVP and that too failed on it tracks as the Rajapaksha cronies couldn't find any to prove their claim.Popularity of NPP is rising by the day as people have realized that the only option they have is JVP led NPP and nothing else.

Probe into Rajapassa family accounts too. There must be continues investigations on how these men and women earned this much of money or how much received as gifts? What businesses or jobs they have done and monthly remunerations? Have they paid the taxes. Are they receiving any remittances from foreign accounts formally or methods such as Undal? If it is possible to trace this and confiscate all illegal wealth, people have to pay much less overall foreign and local debts.

There is nothing wrong if one has 16 or 160 accounts as long as the money was earned legally or inherited from someone who earned it legally. Don't say that people don't have anything to eat, they have all the money for alcohol and drugs. You are a typical NPP guy.

Banks take precautionary measures to ensure that funds deposited are legitimate funds deposited to accounts "Under the KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER POLICY" since several questions are queried as to the source of funds otherwise bank staff will be held responsible under the money laundering act. The bribery commission under the act has the prerogative of requesting banks to freeze third party accounts only for a certain time period until they ascertain through a qualitative comprehensive audit of the sources from where these funds had originated and whether these monies are legal transactions. A notice issued to banks to freeze third party accounts does not construe that these funds are illegal until the report of the investigations. !!!!!!!!

Slowly and hopefully steadily shackles binding the hands of Bribery commission are being released! this is a welcome move even at this late stage. Why not begin investigation into other ministers and MPs too? If a dud like Keheliya can amass over 93 millions what about his former master and colleagues? Don't they deserve equal and respectable treatment? This operation can be used even to clear their names, of found innocent! It may be certificate for their future.
