Colombo, Sep 1 (Daily Mirror) - Some powerful nations including those from the region want a weak government in Sri Lanka, so that they can get what they want, MP Rajitha Senaratne said today.

“Some powerful nations want a weak government in Sri Lanka that will depend on them. Also, these nations can get what they want out of Sri Lanka when there is a weak government in power,” Dr. Senaratne told a media conference.

Absolutely. Actually most of these so called previous and current politicians wants a weak government to continue with their agenda / businesses and luxury lifestyle. Most other countries want their neighbours to progress too so that there will be fair trade and tourism. Just look at some Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia etc who enjoy steady developments and assist in their tourism too.

Unfortunately, it seems that the crowds attending the "speech fest" of all who have put their names in the hat, with mega promises on offer, will be making the final decision. Judging from the pictures of the attending crowds, one can come to the conclusion that the majority of them seemed BORED. An that does say quite a lot. Handunnetti did not know the difference between a passport and visa while a Dr Suriyapperuma at the CCC debate showed their ineptitude with vague ideas. These may be in their top team. The MP Senaratne should clarify his statement when he says that powerful countries want a weak government in SL! But I do not believe that this realistically reflects the starting position of neighboring countries and friendly nations! I think that they are more interested in stable conditions and a strong government! However, the all-important, big question is whether such a government will exist after the election!? I don't think so, if you look analytically at the current political situation of the parties and their players! Where is the strong political government that primarily implements a national policy that overcomes the long-standing ethnic divisions supposed to come from!? I don't see it in the current one led by Ranil, or in a possible one led by Sajith or Anura Kumara!!! I'm not even talking about the incompetent Namal!

Look at Australia, they often form a Government with a simple majority and work together to deliver the policy oriented programs and outcomes. Whatever said and done Rajitha as health minister reduced the prices of done to a great level. He fought against the medical mafia and somehow done great service to poor people by reducing essential drungs. Even stent prices were brought down during his time. Other example is the price of cancer drugs. He saved lot of government money during his time as a health minister.Further just indicate a politician who has not made money. That is normal among politicians specially in third world countries. You vote for NPP and see after some time there will be lot of corruption among them too. Without power all are saints.
