Specialist remanded for alleged assault on staffer at Karapitya Hospital

Karapitiya, Jan 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Onco Surgeon at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital who was alleged to have assaulted a female hospital staffer has been remanded until 22 January by the Galle Magistrate’s Court.

The incident unfolded during a contentious situation that erupted at the hospital premises.

According to the police, the 61-year-old specialist doctor, who stands accused of the assault, was arrested while receiving medical care at a private hospital.

The arrest follows a heated argument that transpired on Wednesday morning, where the Senior Oncologist had allegedly assaulted the staff member.

Further investigations are underway.

This man has done the same thing ( even to his colleagues) during his carrear on so many occasions. Anybody can see that if you inquire from the hospitals where he worked. A swollen headed person. The only credit to him is that he is a very GOOD surgeon and a teacher. He is a psychopath.

This fellow should be severely punished by court. This “ he is a great doctor but a psycho” culture should be replaced by “he is a psycho”. There is no such thing as good or bad doctor .

Sri Lanka is a few countries in the world that gives free medical treatment to its citizens. Most of the doctors are excellent but unfortunately like all public servanrs and politicians, they are rude and rush. Doctors should have enough patients and enough patience ....

This is what you can expect, when you allow to do medicine, only based on A/L results. Many countries have lot of other parameters to check whether the person is fit to be a doctor (Ethical and professional insight should be checked.) It is high time for medical schools in Srilanka to adopt such policies.

Comments are very cruel. I have worked in Health dept. and have seen doctors who are very dedicated to their job only, pressed for time so are impatient. Any excuse can arouse their ire. Delay, noise, shoddy job, even distraction. They become unpopular in spite of immense talent. Those who master their mood, become very popular, e.g. Prof. Navaratne was one such kind person. Even pushing a patient on a trolley is not below his dignity.

Always in an incident everyone will sympathetically be on the side of the woman. According to this news item there has been a heated argument how can a Nurse have a heated argument where she could be charged for insubordination. Today whilst most of the Senior Oncologists have left the shores many Cancer patients are denied of the service of an Oncologist and patients in distant places will have to go Maharagama. Dont take sides with these Florence Nighting Gales as they are arrogant since they have the Clergy who heads the Union who always take the side of its members.!!!!!!
