Sri Lanka Planetarium to be closed to public

The Sri Lanka Planetarium will remain closed to the public from tomorrow (27) until March 12, the Education Ministry announced.

The decision to close the Planetarium stems from the necessity for urgent repairs. As such, access to the facility will be restricted during this period to facilitate the required maintenance work.

Good, because we are still seeing stars after what our hero Politicians have done to this country. So no need planetarium anymore for Sri Lankans.

It doesn’t make any difference if this planetarium is open or closed. We had this for many years but still we failed to inspire the young to become Scientists or Mathematicians. All we did was to follow third world agenda and create endless doctors and engineers , while former waits for medicines made by Western Scientists to arrive and the latter plays no part in the building of major infrastructures in the country.

Don't say that. I visited the planetarium as a kid (7-8 years old) and I was fascinated. 22 years later, I'm an astrophysicist. The place literally started my lifelong passion, I'm sure there are many similar stories. There is an observational bias here, most astrophysicists do not return to Sri Lanka. That's because they wouldn't have any job in Sri Lanka. Only Astro related stuff we are interested in is astrology, and that field is already saturated enough.

We had a beautiful structure somewhere around the planetarium, displaying a steel tower, monumental design for the steel corporation. A tourist and school kids'attraction, a structural marvel, architecturally designed by an architect, ( Anura Rathnavibhushana ). Some idiot in the governing body decided to dismantle it. What a tasteless nation we are.

just spit out the truth idiots, you are lacking of funding since you pocket out everything and spend on unnecessary traditional stuff , no wonder we are backwards, go paint a stupa somewhere in the north central and cover it with gold, that will produce more scientists in the country for a better future
