The Sri Lankan rupee appreciated further against the US dollar today with the buying rate valued at Rs.334 and the selling rate at Rs.346.

Now we need to see RWs plan for growth. Complying with IMF 15 rules must be paralelly supported with a plan to increase value added exports, increase FDIs expand labour markets and labour categories eg more care givers nurses etc. Also a good communication plan to share the plans. Middle class will not support the JVP if we can see real action

Bad news for SJB and JVP as taxes they complain about are working to shore up the value of the rupee. IMF demanded tax increases, and with them recently talking up for it, the public protest, including for CEB tariff blocks are all pointless. Only a Aragalaya to overthrow parliament by force can bring about public interest, but Government has the Military to quash that.

The government is increasingly using deceptive practices to control the FoEX. This is not difficult to understand when you have no additional exports to receive foreign currency, Mandatory financial obligations to debt holders, seriously lacking the income to close the deficit of Foex, the CB is setting up a phoney baloney show.
