Sri Lanka barred from Olympic and U23 Asian Cup football qualifiers

Sri Lanka will be barred from taking part in the qualification matches for the Men's Olympic Football Tournament, 2024 and the U23 Asian Cup unless Football Sri Lanka (FSL) meets the criteria to have its FIFA ban lifted by May 11.

FIFA suspended Sri Lanka's membership in January over what it deemed "third party interference" after the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe stopped then FSL President Jaswar Umar from contesting in the association's election of office bearers.

As a result of FIFA's suspension, Sri Lanka and its club teams are not entitled to take part in international competitions nor benefit from any development programmes, courses, or training from FIFA and/or the Asian Football Confederation.
