Although Sri Lanka requires a system change, it does not have one and that system change should start with developing the education sector, business tycoon and former parliamentarian Dhammika Perera said.
While celebrating the 4th anniversary of Dhammika Perera's DP Education online education system, he yesterday said they received an award for being an education platform number one in the Asian region.
He came up with solutions to the lack of professional teachers in schools around the country and said that fixing smart boards in each and every school classroom with good internet connections would solve the issue. Children can improve their knowledge by using educational channels that target the school syllabus, he said.
"There are 10,000 schools around the country. If the government takes another one and a half years to pass funds to fix smart boards through tender procedures, they can rent and fix at least 30Kwh solar panels in those education buildings, and from the rent it is possible to fix smart boards. There would be no power cuts and we could save money by not buying thermal power or fossil fuels," he said.
"In the future, the country will have a capital fund to develop itself. Therefore, we should implement a plan to develop the country without the capital fund, and that is only through education," he added.
He requested the government to hand over all the Mahindodaya labs to him. He assured that he would put 140,000 Advanced Level students on the job market in one year.
"For that, I have built a suitable platform that is 100 percent guaranteed," Perera said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
