Sri Lanka expands teaching hospitals with new addition of Badulla hospital



Badulla (Daily Mirror) - In a bid to enhance the delivery of medical education and services in Sri Lanka, the Badulla Provincial General Hospital has been upgraded to a teaching hospital.

The new addition brings the total number of teaching hospitals in Sri Lanka to 22.

This was officially announced by the Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena today (26) in conjunction with the commencement of the construction work for a ten-storey building designated as the Professorial Unit of the Faculty of Medicine at the Uva Wellassa University.

With a financial allocation of Rs. 2.26 billion, the construction work is expected to end in December 2025.

The new building, with its state-of-the-art facilities, will play a pivotal role in training the next generation of doctors and healthcare practitioners.
