Sri Lanka leave for Nations Cup in Singapore



The Sri Lanka Netball Team will leave for Singapore tomorrow (20) to participate in the 14th Nations Cup Invitation International Netball Tournament 2023.

Netball Singapore will conduct the tournament from October 22-28 at the OCBA Arena Sports Hub in Singapore with the participation of six teams.

Canada, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands and Sri Lanka are the invited teams and Singapore and Singapore 'A' teams will participate as the host country, according to Netball Singapore.

Sri Lanka will meet Canada on October 22, Singapore 'A' on October 23, Cook Islands on October 24, Papua New Guinea on October 25, and Singapore on October 27. The final is on October 28.

Veteran player Dulangi Wannithilake is the Captain of the Sri Lanka Netball team. She was the Vice-Captain of the team at the 2023 Cape Town Netball World Cup.

The Sri Lanka Netball Team is coached by former Sri Lanka Captain P. D. Prasadi.

“We have completed the training very successfully so far. Seven new players and five experienced players who played in the World Cup are in the Sri Lanka Team. My plan is to take match by match,” Coach Prasadi told the Daily Mirror yesterday.

Netball Singapore started this tournament in 2006 and Sri Lanka last made their appearance in 2013.

Sri Lanka has never managed to win the Nations Cup, clinching the fourth position in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013 respectively. (Susil Premalal)
