Sri Lanka plans Ed Sheeran concert in 2025

June 24 - Sri Lanka is gearing up to host a major international music event with plans for a concert featuring global superstar Ed Sheeran in January 2025.

The announcement came from Harin Fernando, the Minister of Tourism, during a press briefing in Colombo on Monday.

Fernando revealed, "Recently, a company has expressed interest in bringing Ed Sheeran, one of the key singers, to Sri Lanka in January or February." He identified Cinnamon Life as the firm spearheading efforts to bring the renowned artist to the island nation.

If realized, this concert would mark the return of a high-profile international pop star performance to Sri Lanka after a significant hiatus.

So the IMF has released some dollars and expat workers are sending remittances, this naturalised Indian Minister is planning to import singers too . Why not promote local concerts? I am OK with this arrangement as long as tickets are sold in US Dollars not in Rupees. The company should fund it from ticket sales received in dollars.

I don't really know who Ed Sheeran is, cannot be a global superstar with vocals like our 'Pin President' Ranil W. Harin doesn't seems to know his limits and always willing to bite more than he can chew.

Aren't we people starving without money? Hasn't the central bank and the government enforced restrictions on money being sent out of the country in order to rebuild the economy? So, in the event Sheeran does perform here, will he not be paid in millions???
