Sri Lankan students shine in Global Robotics Competition



A team of students from Dharmapala College, St. Sebastian’s College and Elizabeth Moir School achieved international recognition by winning the Zhang Heng Award for Engineering Design at the 6th Global Challenge Robotics Competition 2024, held in Athens, Greece, from September 26 to 29. 

Competing against 193 countries, the team—Raveen Akuretiyawa, Tharul Senanayake, Heveen Ramachandra, Supul Baddegama and Malik Radigal—won the Zhang Heng Award for Engineering Design. 

They also placed sixth overall in the competition, which featured over 100 participants. 

The Sri Lankan team’s innovation secured first place, followed by teams from Colombia and India. 

The students were welcomed home at the Bandaranaike International Airport recently.

The Global Challenge Robotics Competition focuses on engaging young people in solving real-world problems through technology.
