SriLankan clarifies flight delays

Colombo, Feb 25 (Daily Mirror) - SriLankan Airlines clarified that the delays experienced by passengers at the check-in counters in Bandaranaike International Airport during the early hours of the morning were due to temporary, unplanned operational conditions at the airport and not any form of trade union action.

The check-in counter operations have since stabilized and returned to normal.

SriLankan Airlines extends apologies to any inconvenienced passengers and assures continued monitoring of the situation to prevent recurrence.

They aren't lazy but are like nursery school teachers who do things very slowly. You got to be there at least 4 hours before the departure time if the flights are early in the morning. Online Check in don't help much.

Fly Srilankan at your own risk. There's no guarantee that you will fly on the booked day and time. Once you part with your money the deal is done. If you are affected by any chance sue them in EU or any other contry with law and order. Will ban them on enterring international airspace soon. The cases are piling up fast over here at ICAO.

Incorrect!!!!! The main cause is due to slowness. I have gone through checking counters in may major airports such as Sydney, Melbourne, London and Frankfurt. If you observe the officers at checking counters at those airports, you'll be impressed at their speed and efficiency where officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport are extremely slow. They operate at a snail speed. They are even too lazy to get out of their seat or even turn their seat. I suggest senior officers of Sri Lankan airlines go to those airports and spend some time observing the way officers at checking counters operate. Secondly, the area where the Sri Lankan airline checking counter is not equipped to hold a relatively large crowd. Instead of expanding the airport, they spent millions on building the Maththala airport. Shocking!!!!!!!

I have been travelling in and out of Colombo since 1990, no less than 150 times. In most cases the check in counters were effeciently manned. Except in some cases when too many departures are crammed in a short span of time that the check in counters are furthur stretched. However there is an urgency to expand the airport to accommodate the growing number of passenger and to hire and train workers to support the passenger growth.

No need to go far, just look at Bangalore Airport's Terminal 2, almost like any Middle East airport. Max check-in time is 10-15 minutes. Ground operations run by CELEBI a private entity. We in this country are like frogs in a well, do not want to progress and be efficient in our work ethic.

Srilankan airline counter delay was not temporary or random, it's happened every time when I was traveling through Srilankan airline, what I observed was this due to poor management, lack of training or deliberately they do it. I am frequently traveling, unfortunately for some destinations only option is Srilankan airline.

I agree, the only option Columbo to kochi is sri Lankan airlines at a very high cost for 1 hour flight. Also we cancelled in January trivandrum Columbo return within their 24 hours policy. Full refund. Flights actually cancelled within 12 hours of booking....... Guess what ?? Still no refund made....... Many emails sent !!! Not even a generic reply Tried to phone but over one hour waiting so give up...... Love sri Lanka but this airline really needs investments and training......... Keep passengers informed to save anxiety.......no information ever given out for 2 hr delays .......very sad

Just finished a lovely holiday in Sri Lanka, only to be marred by departing at Bandaranaike International Airport. Absolute disaster waiting to happen if this is what to expect at Sri Lanka's main airport. People will die. There was no information displayed on the electronic boards that the check-in counter had had opened for UL604. Eventually I asked at Information counter and was told that the counter was open and we could go to any counter. We went to a manned counter, as did many others, but no-one processed any passengers. Eventually the staff member walked off and did not return. After some worried passengers demanded attention we were told only counters 11 upwards were open. We all went over there but the whole area was already crammed with too many people. There was no sense of order, no proper designated lanes and no-one helping. We moved about 15 cm after an hour or so. Passengers were getting angry, a woman was pushed over, voices were raised and plane delayed for 2 hours.
