State Minister’s private secretary arrested over Rs. 1.5 Mn bribe



Colombo, August 01 (Daily Mirror) - A private secretary to State Minister S. Viyalendiran and a political activist have been arrested on allegations of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 1.5 million. 

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABoC) said that the suspects were arrested following a complaint by a businessman from the Polonnaruwa area. 

The suspects had allegedly solicited the bribe to facilitate the issuing of a permit from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.

The private secretary was arrested at the State Minister’s office in Batticaloa, while the political activist was arrested near a state bank in the same city. 

The suspects are scheduled to produce before court.
