Students nabbed over racist posts detained till March 22

Colombo Chief Magistrate today ordered to detain the two students who were arrested over social media posts till March 22 at the Youth Detention Centre at Makola.

They were arrested on Friday (9) and Saturday (10) by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Minuwangoda and Homagama.

CID is conducting further investigations. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

I think the best action is to ask the concerned social media site to provide a content filtering that is not allowing hate speach. If they do not comply do not allow them to operate here in Sri Lanka. Just punishing the students here and there only will end in spoling the student life. Only laweyers will make benifit out of the situation. Several years back I was asked to pay penatly for wearing smoked glass helmet which I bought here in Sri Lanka. I was not aware till that time these are prohibited by the law. If so the correct action would have stopeed manufacturing and/or improting and selling at the market.
