Suspect arrested for stealing British lady’s bag on bus

Colombo, May 31 (Daily Mirror) - A 31 years-old suspect has been arrested in connection with stealing a bag of a female British tourist containing valuables worth Rs. 2.5 million on a bus at the Bastian Mawatha in Pettah.

Police said the suspect, a resident of Pethiyagoda, Kelaniya was arrested early this morning by a group of police officers from the Pettah Police.

Police also recovered stolen valuables including a camera, a laptop, bank cards and the passport of the Birtish lady.

Investigations revealed that the tourist, a YouTuber had arrived in Sri Lanka to make a video on the country and was preparing to leave for Ella from Bastian Mawatha when her bag was stolen.

Glad the man was arrested. Female solo YouTubers/travellers is a trend. This is going to be yet another viral video which will bring negative attention to SL. Even Lankan women don't travel with valuables on them but foreigners have a false sense of security when they travel to these parts of the world. If you are visiting, get some tips from the local women on where to go, how to dress, what to carry when traveling in public transport etc.

Tourists come from all over the world, DO NOT expect them to change their CULTURE, DRESS SENSE AND THE LIKES because we have scumbags waiting to pry on tourists walking around (acts like this have and still take place where are own females have been and still are subjected to similar incidents in buses, not forgetting sexual abuse too by perverts when buses are crowded during after school hours.

With the influx of tourists into the country there are plenty of scammers drug traffickers sex perverts thieves etc. trying to cash in on the current situation. If no action is taken sooner than later the foreign media will warn their countrymen that Sri Lanka is not a safe place to visit and that could be the death knell to Sri Lanka's tourism industry.
