Suspect nabbed with 650 mobile phones in Puttalam



Colombo, August 28 (Daily Mirror) - A combined search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Police resulted in the arrest of a suspect attempting to smuggle a stock of mobile phones into the country, police said.

They said the suspect was arrested with the stock at the roadblock in the Karamba area of Puttalam.

The arrest was made when the suspect was transferring the mobile phones from a cab vehicle.

Upon receiving information, the search operation was conducted by the naval personnel attached to the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in Thambapanni and with the support of the Norochcholai Police at the Karamba roadblock. 

During the search police recovered 650 mobile phones suspected of being illegally brought into the country. 

The suspect (52) engaged in this operation was identified as a resident of Kekirawa. The suspect along with mobile phones and the cab was handed over to the Norochcholai Police for further investigations.
