Tamil Progressive Alliance to go solo at LG Polls

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) ally the Tamil Progressive Alliance is slated to contest the local government elections under its symbol, a party senior said yesterday.

TPA senior member and MP Palani Digambaram told Daily Mirror that the alliance is looking forward to contest the local government election under its symbol. “We will have a dialogue with the SJB initially and see how many slots we can get for the local bodies in districts such as Badulla. The issue is that SJB has a tendency to field their own organisers as candidates. Our alliance will miss opportunities in such a scenario. We will go it alone if there is no favourable response from SJB leadership,” Mr. Digambaram said.

TPA is also focusing on the school of thought that it can get more of its members elected to local bodies if it contests the election separately.

Mr. Digambaram said the focus of TPA is to get more of its party members elected in districts such as Badulla if it contests separately.
